About the Trust
Govanithashraya Trust (R.), Mangaluru: a service organisation for the protection of cows and the rehabilitation of women.
Launched on Rama Navami, 21 April 2002
It was on 21st April 2002, the auspicious day of Rama Navami, that our Govanithashraya Trust was launched. Since then this unique service organisation has been venturing in twin directions: protecting cows and women's rehabilitation.
Our humble projects
Our service activities are sprouting in a rural place called Beejaguri, 22 km from the city of Mangaluru, in Pajeer Village, Bantwal Taluk, Dakshina Kannada District, Karnataka. The campus spreads over 10 acres of our own land, with a Gopalakrishna temple, coconut plantation and organic farming around the goushalas.

Ganga, Gowri, Kapila & Amritha
Cows are quite near and dear to us and are rightly deemed very sacred due to their great utility. Ours is a serene mission to protect them from slaughterhouses and to preserve and improve their breeds.
Our Ganga, Gowri, Kapila and Amritha goushalas are the happy home of about 300 cattle, many of them rescued from illegal transport to slaughterhouses. Around 15 paid staff care for the animals and manage the institution.
Respect and care for women in distress
The women of our society must be given due respect and proper care. Ours is a humane endeavour to extend every kind of assistance to women in distress.
- Completely free food, shelter and clothing
- Medical facilities

What we have achieved together
- Since 2002 we have carried out our service on our own purchased land of 10 acres.
- Many dignitaries and well-wishers have appreciated our service. Rotary International Foundation, the Government of India, Anandashram of Kerala and many philanthropists in India and abroad have strengthened our institution.
- The Trust has conducted the marriages of several girls from the ‘Mamatha’ Rehabilitation Centre.
- We have created awareness among villagers about the need to protect cattle and stop their illegal transport to slaughterhouses.
- The Trust has secured F.C.R.A. clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, and is recognised by the Animal Welfare Board of India.
- A grand two-day Gowsammelan was held on our premises in February 2011, and the two-day Gomandala cattle awareness fair at Nehru Maidan, Mangaluru, in December 2019.
